Measuring your project
It’s always important to take correct measurements of any project. Because a wrong move in understanding will not lead your project towards success. To get better end result you need accurate measurement. Ruler, tape and seam gauges are very important tools to start with correct horizontal and vertical lines.
The tape must not be stretchy and flexible to calculate. Here a small ruler will work as a double-pointed sliding guide. These unique rulers will give you faster, easier measuring and better accuracy.
Marking the fabric
Marking the fabric helps you in sewing the fabric pieces together. To mark a fabric tracking paper, tracking wheel and chalks are widely use. You can use tracking paper as a layer so that fabric don’t get fold. Please be sure to use right color so that you can see easily.
The tracking wheel allows transferring pattern marking of tracing paper. To start basic projects you can use a water soluble marking pen or special "lead" pencil and a regular pencil sharpener so that you can wash away the marking easily after wash.
But remember to add air-soluble pens rather using calk or pencils so that the marking vanishes over time with exposure to the air or heat of iron for exceptionally important projects.
Cutting the fabric
To get amazing result in sewing project choose your cutting tools with importance. Sharp, precise cutting tools are very important. Since you are not cutting paper, choose carefully. To start, get yourself a good scissors and shears. If you need long cutting job then chose scissors size accordingly.
Remember that they should bend of about 45˚ angle. A good seam ripper will give you chance to correct your sewing mistakes. To get exact cuts against a straight edge get a rotary cutter which works similar as pizza cutter.
Pressing the Fabric
If you want to give professional looks to your sewing projects then you may require putting extra pressure in your fabrics. It will give wonderful crisp, clean edges of your fabric. Steam iron will let you to control the steam you need to press.
You will also find some good iron board with cotton over heat-reflective surfaces. Choose according to your preferred height. Sometimes you may work with the fabric which will shine if heat is applied directly.
In such situation you will require a cotton or wool fabric cloth to prevent direct heat to the object. Use folding pen rather using small iron to fold fabric along an exact line.
Sewing Needles, Pins and Thread
Always choose quality needles, pins and thread to lead your path to success. Pins are essential to hold your fabric. So get some good pins so that they don’t melt and bend when ironed. You should start the new projects with new needles.
There are universal needles for woven fabrics and home décor. You will also need hand sewing needles. Choose superior quality thread according to your project need.
